Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria As On 01 January 2026

• Minimum Age : 18 Years
• Maximum Age : 40 Years
• Age Relaxation : Age relaxation is provided as per Government of India rules for various categories (SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS). Candidates are advised to refer to the official notification for detailed category-wise age relaxation.
• Educational Qualification : Candidates must have passed the Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from any recognized Board of School Education.
• Local Language Knowledge : The applicant should have studied the local language of the respective state/circle (as per Annexure-IA of the official notification) as a compulsory or elective subject at least up to Class 10. Proficiency in the local language is mandatory.
• Basic Computer Knowledge : While not explicitly stated in all notifications, basic computer knowledge is often a preferred or required qualification for GDS posts, given the nature of work. It is advisable for candidates to possess a basic computer training certificate.
• Other Requirements : Knowledge of cycling is a desirable condition for GDS posts, as candidates may be required to deliver mail on bicycles.

Selection Process

• Merit List Based on Academic Performance: The primary selection criterion for India Post GDS posts is based on the marks obtained in the Class 10 (Secondary School Examination). There is no written examination for this recruitment. Candidates are shortlisted purely on the basis of their percentage marks in Class 10.
• Document Verification (DV): Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification. This stage is crucial, and candidates must present all original documents for verification. Any discrepancy or failure to produce required documents will lead to disqualification.
• Final Selection: After successful document verification, candidates whose documents are found in order and who meet all eligibility criteria are considered for final selection. The final selection is subject to medical fitness and other conditions as prescribed by India Post.

How to Check & Download India Post GDS Merit List 2026

• Step 1 : Visit the official website of India Post GDS Online at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
• Step 2 : On the homepage, navigate to the “Shortlisted Candidates” section. This is usually prominently displayed under the recruitment updates.
• Step 3 : Click on the link relevant to the latest merit list, for example, “Shortlisted Candidates – List IV” for GDS Recruitment 2026.
• Step 4 : Select your respective Circle/State from the provided list. This will open a PDF document containing the list of shortlisted candidates.
• Step 5 : Download the PDF file and open it. Use the search function (Ctrl+F) to find your name or registration number within the document.
• Step 6 : If your name/registration number is on the list, you are provisionally shortlisted. Carefully read the instructions in the PDF regarding the next steps, primarily document verification.
• Step 7 : Prepare all necessary original documents for the upcoming document verification stage.

How to Apply (Initial Application Process)

• Interested candidates who wished to apply for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) positions had to submit their application online before the last date of February 14, 2026.
• The application process involved three main steps: Registration, Fee Payment, and Application Submission.
• Candidates first needed to register on the official portal, providing basic details.
• After registration, the application fee (if applicable) had to be paid online through the specified payment modes.
• Finally, candidates had to fill out the detailed application form, upload required documents (photograph and signature), select preferences, and submit the form.
