Eligibility & Required Documents

• Eligibility Criteria: Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India can voluntarily enroll for Aadhaar. The person needs to have resided in India for a period or periods amounting to 182 days or more in the twelve months immediately preceding the date of application for enrollment.
• Document Requirements: To enroll for a new Aadhaar or update existing details, applicants must furnish valid Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), and Proof of Date of Birth (PoB) as per UIDAI guidelines.

How to Enroll for a New Aadhaar Card

• Step 1: Locate an Enrollment Center: Use the “Locate an Enrolment Center” link in the Important Links section below. You can find centers by selecting your State Name, District Name, and Area.
• Step 2: Visit the Center: Go to your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center with all necessary original documents for Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), and Proof of Date of Birth (PoB).
• Step 3: Submit Details: Fill the Aadhaar enrollment form (available for download in Hindi/English from the Important Links section), submit your documents, provide your photograph, and undergo biometric scanning (fingerprints and iris scan).
• Step 4: Receive Enrollment Slip: After successful submission, you will receive an acknowledgement slip containing a 14-digit Enrollment ID (EID) and date/time. Keep this slip safe.
• Step 5: Download e-Aadhaar: After a few days (typically 5-15 days), your e-Aadhaar will be generated and available for download from the official UIDAI portal using your EID. You will also receive an SMS on your registered mobile number once your Aadhaar is generated.

How to Correct / Update Your Aadhaar Card

• Online Correction (Demographic Data Only): For corrections/updates in demographic details like Name, Address, Date of Birth, Gender, Mobile Number, and Email ID, you can use the online portal through the official UIDAI website (MyAadhaar portal). Ensure your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar for OTP-based authentication.
• Correction at Enrollment/Update Center (Demographic & Biometric): For biometric updates (fingerprints, iris, photograph) or demographic updates if your mobile number is not registered, you must visit an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center. Book an appointment online for convenience using the “Locate an Enrolment Center” link.
• Document Submission: For any correction or update, carry original supporting documents as proof of the changes you wish to make.
• Track Status: After submitting an update request, you will receive an Update Request Number (URN). Use this URN to check the status of your Aadhaar update online via the “Check Aadhaar Update Status” link.
• Download Updated e-Aadhaar: Once your correction/update request is successfully processed, you can download your updated e-Aadhaar from the official portal.

How to Download Your E-Aadhaar Card

• Step 1: Visit Official Portal: Open the official UIDAI website (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) or select the “Download Aadhaar Card” link from the Important Links section below.
• Step 2: Choose Download Option: You can download your e-Aadhaar using one of three options:
  • Aadhaar Number: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number.
  • Enrolment ID (EID): Enter the 14-digit Enrollment ID along with the 14-digit date and time of enrollment.
  • Virtual ID (VID): Enter your 16-digit Virtual ID.
• Step 3: Enter Details & OTP: Provide the required details (Aadhaar/EID/VID) and the security captcha. Then, click “Send OTP.” An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
• Step 5: Access e-Aadhaar: Your e-Aadhaar will be downloaded as a PDF file. The PDF is password-protected. The password is the first four letters of your name (as per Aadhaar) in capital letters, followed by your year of birth (YYYY). For example, if your name is “Suresh Kumar” and your birth year is 1990, the password would be SURE1990.
• Step 6: Print for Reference: Take a printout of your e-Aadhaar for physical verification or future reference.
