Short Information :The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a notification for the CSIR UGC NET December 2026 examination. Eligible candidates holding a Master’s Degree can apply online from 07 October 2026 to 05 November 2026. This examination is conducted for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professorship in various science subjects. Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) : Maximum age limit is 30 Years as on 01.07.2026. Age relaxation is applicable as per NTA rules for reserved categories (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and female applicants).
  • Lectureship (LS) / Assistant Professor : There is No Upper Age Limit for applying for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor.
  • Educational Qualification : Candidates must have passed or appeared in a Master’s Degree (M.Sc./Equivalent degree/Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 years/BE/B.Tech/B.Pharma/MBBS) with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) from a recognized University or institution.
  • Candidates pursuing their Master’s degree (Result Awaited) are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree within the specified time frame and meet the minimum percentage criteria.

Selection Process

  • The selection for NTA CSIR UGC NET December 2026 will be based on a single Online Examination (CBT – Computer Based Test).
  • The examination will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and will be held in two sessions on different days as per the schedule.
  • The performance in the online examination will determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor.
  • Candidates who qualify for JRF will also be eligible for Lectureship/Assistant Professor, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for the same.

NTA CSIR UGC NET December 2026 : Exam Pattern & Subjects
  • The exam is conducted for five subjects under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) stream:
    • Chemical Sciences
    • Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences
    • Life Sciences
    • Mathematical Sciences
    • Physical Sciences
    • The examination consists of a single paper having Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) divided into three parts:
    • Part ‘A’ : General Aptitude with logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc. (20 questions, attempt 15, 30 marks)
    • Part ‘B’ : Subject-specific conventional Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) covering topics from the syllabus. (20-35 questions, 2 marks each)
    • Part ‘C’ : Higher-value questions that may be analytical in nature, testing scientific concepts and/or application of scientific principles. (20-30 questions, 3.5-5 marks each)
    • Negative Marking : There is negative marking for incorrect answers. The exact percentage varies for each part and subject, as detailed in the information bulletin.
