UKPSC Lower PCS Recruitment 2026 : Mode Of Selection
Preliminary Examination (Prelims): This is the first stage, typically an objective-type screening test. It aims to filter candidates for the Main Examination. The marks obtained in the Prelims are usually not counted for the final merit but are essential for qualification to the next stage.
Main Examination (Mains): Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Exam proceed to the Main Examination. This stage usually comprises descriptive papers designed to assess the candidate’s academic talent, knowledge, understanding, power of expression, and comprehensive ability. Marks from the Main Examination are crucial for the final merit list.
Interview (Personality Test): Candidates clearing the Main Examination are called for an interview. This stage evaluates the candidate’s overall personality, general awareness, logical reasoning, mental alertness, leadership qualities, and suitability for public service.
Document Verification: After the interview, selected candidates undergo a thorough document verification process where all educational qualifications, age proof, caste certificates, and other relevant documents are checked against the official records. Any discrepancy can lead to disqualification.
Medical Examination: Successful candidates in the merit list after the interview and document verification stages will typically undergo a medical fitness examination to ensure they meet the prescribed physical and medical standards for government service.
Final Selection: The final merit list is prepared based on the combined performance in the Main Examination and the Interview, subject to successful document verification and medical clearance.
