Selection Process for UPPSC PCS Pre 2026

  • The selection process for the UPPSC Combined Upper Subordinate Services (PCS) examination typically involves three main stages:
  • Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Pre) – This is a screening test consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II or CSAT). Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are for screening purposes only and are not counted for the final merit list. Candidates must qualify in GS Paper-II (CSAT) with a minimum of 33% marks.
  • Stage 2: Main Examination (Mains) – Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Examination. The Mains Exam is a conventional type (written) examination consisting of several papers, including General Hindi, Essay, and multiple General Studies papers, along with optional subjects (if applicable for 2026, though UPPSC has recently moved away from optional subjects). The marks obtained in the Mains Examination are considered for the final merit list.
  • Stage 3: Interview (Viva-Voce) – Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are called for an Interview. The Interview assesses the candidate’s general awareness, intelligence, character, expression power, and suitability for public service.
  • Stage 4: Document Verification (DV) – After the Interview, candidates will undergo document verification. It is crucial to have all original documents (educational certificates, age proof, caste certificate, domicile, etc.) ready and self-attested copies for submission. Any discrepancy can lead to disqualification.
  • Final Merit List : The final merit list is prepared based on the total marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview.
