Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria

  • For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) : Maximum Age : 30 Years (as on 01.07.2025 – generally calculated from the last examination cycle, candidates should refer to the official notification for precise cut-off date.)
  • For Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor : No Age Limit
  • Additional Age Relaxation as per UGC CSIR NET June 2026 Examination Guidelines for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Female candidates).

Selection Process

  • The selection process for CSIR UGC NET June 2026 primarily involves an Online Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  • Candidates’ performance in the CBT will determine their qualification for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor.
  • A combined Merit List will be prepared based on the scores obtained in the CBT. There are no interviews for CSIR UGC NET.
  • Eligibility for Assistant Professor and/or JRF will be granted based on the merit achieved in the examination, allowing qualified candidates to apply for teaching positions in Indian universities/colleges or pursue research fellowships.
  • Final Result Declaration will be made on the NTA website after the successful conduct of the examination and evaluation process.

UGC CSIR NET June Examination 2026 : Eligibility Criteria
  • Candidates with an M.Sc. or equivalent degree, or having completed Integrated BS-MS, BS-4 years, BE/B.Tech, B.Pharma, or MBBS are eligible.
  • A minimum of 55% aggregate marks (without rounding off) for General (UR)/General-EWS candidates and 50% aggregate marks for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/Third gender and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates is required in the qualifying degree.
  • Candidates who are enrolled for an M.Sc. degree or have completed 10+2+3 years of the aforementioned qualifying examination are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category. Such candidates must complete their qualifying degree with the required percentage of marks within two years from the date of declaration of NET result.
  • Ph.D. degree holders who have passed their Master’s degree examination prior to 19th September 1991, with at least 50% marks, are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.

UGC CSIR NET June Examination 2026 : Mode Of Selection
  • The selection is entirely based on an Online Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  • The CBT comprises three parts (A, B, and C) with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Part A assesses General Aptitude common to all subjects. Parts B and C cover subject-specific knowledge based on the chosen scientific discipline.
  • Negative Marking is applicable for incorrect answers in the examination.
  • A Merit List will be prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the CBT.
  • Candidates who qualify the examination will be eligible for either Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor, or both, depending on their rank and choices. There is no interview stage for the CSIR UGC NET.
