Selection Process

  • Preliminary Examination (Screening Test): This is the first stage, usually a Computer-Based Test (CBT) comprising objective-type questions. Its purpose is to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. Questions assess general knowledge and subject-specific understanding.
  • Main Examination (Descriptive Test): Candidates who clear the Preliminary Exam proceed to this stage. It typically consists of descriptive papers designed to test in-depth knowledge and analytical abilities in their chosen geological/geophysical/chemical disciplines.
  • Personality Test / Interview: Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are called for a Personality Test/Interview. This stage assesses the candidate’s mental aptitude, critical thinking, communication skills, leadership qualities, and suitability for a career in public service.
  • The final selection is based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Main Examination and the Personality Test/Interview.
