The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released a notification for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026, inviting applications for admission to BA/LLB (UG) and LLM (PG) courses for the academic year 2027. Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit: As per CLAT Rules. There is generally No Upper Age Limit for appearing in CLAT. Candidates are advised to check the official notification for any specific age-related guidelines.
CLAT BA LLB UG Course Eligibility:
Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) Examination or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board in India.
Minimum 45% Marks are required for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI category candidates.
Minimum 40% Marks are required for SC/ST category candidates.
Both Passed and Appearing candidates (those appearing for their 12th-grade examinations in the academic year of application) are eligible to apply.
CLAT LLM PG Course Eligibility:
Candidates must have passed an LLB Degree or an equivalent degree from any recognized University in India.
Minimum 55% Marks are required for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI category candidates.
Minimum 50% Marks are required for SC/ST category candidates.
Both Passed and Appearing candidates (those appearing for their final year/semester LLB examinations in the academic year of application) are eligible to apply.
Selection Process
Stage 1: Entrance Examination (CLAT) – Candidates must appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026, which is a national-level entrance examination. The examination assesses candidates’ aptitude for law.
Stage 2: Merit List Preparation – Based on the scores obtained in the CLAT 2026 examination, a merit list will be prepared. Candidates will be ranked according to their performance.
Stage 3: Centralized Online Counselling – Qualified candidates will be invited for a centralized online counselling process conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. During counselling, candidates will select their preferred National Law Universities (NLUs) based on their merit rank and availability of seats.
Stage 4: Document Verification and Admission – Once a seat is provisionally allocated, candidates must undergo document verification at the respective NLU and complete the admission formalities, including fee payment.

The application fee is ₹ 4000/- for General/OBC candidates and ₹ 3500/- for SC/ST candidates.
