Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: As per IIM CAT rules, there is no specific upper or lower age limit mentioned for candidates applying to Post Graduate Programmes in Management (PGP) or Fellowship Programmes in Management (FPM/PHD). Candidates are advised to refer to the official information bulletin for any specific age-related guidelines from individual IIMs.
  • Educational Qualification (PGP): Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. A relaxation of 5% (i.e., 45% marks) is applicable for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories. The degree must be awarded by any University or educational institution incorporated by an Act of the Parliament or State legislature in India, or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • Educational Qualification (FPM/PHD): Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification examination, and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results, are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates, if provisionally selected, must submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/institution (issued on or before the date stipulated by the respective IIM) confirming that they have completed all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification by the certificate issue date.

Selection Process

  • Stage 1: Common Admission Test (CAT) Examination: Candidates must appear for and clear the CAT 2026 examination, which assesses their Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) skills.
  • Stage 2: Shortlisting by IIMs: Based on the CAT 2026 scores, individual IIMs will shortlist candidates for the next stage of the selection process. Each IIM has its own criteria, including CAT sectional and overall cut-offs, academic record (10th, 12th, graduation), work experience, and gender diversity.
  • Stage 3: Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI): Shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a Written Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) and a Personal Interview (PI) round conducted by the respective IIMs. These rounds evaluate communication skills, leadership potential, general awareness, and suitability for management programs.
  • Stage 4: Final Merit List: A final merit list will be prepared by each IIM based on a composite score, which typically includes CAT score, WAT/GD-PI performance, academic profile, and work experience. Selected candidates will then be offered admission to their chosen programs.

IIM CAT 2026 : Course Details & Eligibility Criteria
  • Post Graduate Programmes in Management (PGP):
    • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or educational institution.
    • A minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in the Bachelor’s Degree is required.
    • For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories, the minimum requirement is 45% marks or equivalent CGPA.
    • The degree must be awarded by an institution incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India, or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
    • Fellowship Programmes in Management (FPM) / (PHD):
      • Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination are eligible to apply.
      • Those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting their final results can also apply provisionally.
      • Provisionally selected candidates must submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/institution by the stipulated date, confirming that they have completed all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification by the date of certificate issue.

IIM CAT 2026 : Examination Pattern (Overview)
  • The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based test conducted in various cities across India.
  • The exam typically consists of three sections:
    • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
    • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
    • Quantitative Ability (QA)
    • The total duration of the exam is usually 120 minutes (2 hours), with 40 minutes allotted to each section.
    • The exam includes both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Type In The Answer (TITA) questions.
    • There is a negative marking scheme for MCQs. For TITA questions, there is usually no negative marking.
