Selection Process- The selection process for admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses through NEET PG 2026 is a multi-stage procedure primarily based on the performance in the entrance examination, followed by counselling and document verification.
- Stage 1: Entrance Test (NEET PG 2026 Examination)
- This is the foundational stage, involving a nationwide, single-window, computer-based test (CBT).
- The examination comprises 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) designed to assess the comprehensive knowledge and understanding of medical graduates across various subjects taught during the MBBS curriculum.
- Candidates are required to achieve the minimum qualifying percentile, as prescribed by the NBE, to be eligible for subsequent counselling and admission processes.
- The All India Rank (AIR) secured in NEET PG 2026 forms the sole basis for admissions to all postgraduate medical courses in the country.
- Stage 2: Counselling and Seat Allotment
- Following the declaration of NEET PG 2026 results, eligible candidates must participate in online counselling.
- The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical colleges, as well as seats in Deemed/Central Universities, ESIC, and AFMS institutions.
- Respective State Counselling Authorities are responsible for conducting counselling for the remaining 50% State Quota seats in government medical colleges and seats in private medical colleges within their states.
- Seat allotment is strictly based on the candidate’s NEET PG merit rank, the preferences for courses and institutions submitted during the counselling registration, and the availability of seats.
- Stage 3: Document Verification & Medical Examination
- Candidates who are provisionally allotted seats must report to their designated institution for a thorough document verification process. Essential documents typically include the NEET PG Admit Card, Result/Score Card, MBBS Degree/Provisional Certificate, Internship Completion Certificate, Permanent/Provisional Medical Registration Certificate, Caste/Category Certificate (if applicable), and valid identity proof.
- Additionally, a medical examination may be conducted by the admitting institution to ensure that the candidate meets the necessary physical and mental health standards required for pursuing demanding postgraduate medical studies.
