UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2026 : Eligibility Criteria
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized University or Institution in India.
  • Stream Specifics: The degree must be in one of the four core engineering disciplines:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
    • Appearing Candidates: Candidates appearing in the final year examination of their engineering degree are also eligible to apply, subject to producing proof of passing the degree before the interview stage.
      • Minimum Age: 21 Years
      • Maximum Age: 30 Years
    • Age Relaxation: Age relaxation is provided as per Government of India rules for various reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex-Servicemen). Please refer to the official notification for detailed age relaxation norms.
    • Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

  • Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): This is the first stage, comprising two objective papers (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude, and Engineering Discipline specific). It serves as a screening test to select candidates for the Mains Examination.
  • Stage II: Mains Examination (Conventional/Descriptive Type): Candidates who qualify the Prelims appear for the Mains exam, which consists of two descriptive papers in their engineering discipline. This stage assesses the candidate’s in-depth technical knowledge and analytical skills.
